The only way to win in this game is to rush the AI in all directions before they can gang up on you (which usually results in being attacked by full stacks from 5 different factions simultaneously). But sometimes I like to turtle for a bit and build up my economy rather than rush, but that play style is impossible because of the shitty diplomacy. I'm still at war with everyone, but at least it's on my terms. This time I decided to be aggressive Within the first 50 turns or so I besieged and took Vienna, Nuremberg, Innsbruck, Krakow, Prague, Constantinople, Thessalonica, Corinth, Durazzo, Zagreb (Among others) and i'm descending on Venice, Ragusa, and Thorn too. I'd rather have an AI that is relatively passive when neutral, but puts up a real fight when at war, rather than the current situation where every faction wants to start a war with you for no reason, but once you defeat their leading army they are sitting ducks (Obviously not the case on very hard, but you get my point).Īfter the failed Russian campaign I started a game with Hungary. I mean, I know it's called Total war, but it really takes the piss when you have a constant war on all fronts. Is there some sort of trick to getting other factions to like you/not attack you? So far the only faction i've managed to have a lasting alliance with is the Papacy, and that's only because I dominated the College of Cardinals and gave them land so they could act as a buffer state for me. Ontop of this, the Mongols are on their way to Kiev and will be ready to fuck shit up even further. I started a game with the Russians recently, and i'm currently at war with Poland, Hungary, the Byzantines, the Holy Roman Empire, Denmark and England - and my armies haven't even set foot in lands beyond Vilnius/Riga/Smolensk yet. Whether i'm a tyrant who executes everything in my path, or a chivalric ruler who shows mercy and compassion, everybody is still out to get me. Is it just me, or is the diplomacy terrible? I usually play on medium difficulty, and it seems that i'm constantly at war with every faction that I border with, regardless of my play style or the faction I start out as. Think we missed one?
